AHDB Education Work
The aim of AHDB Education is to fund and deliver a range of curriculum-based food and farming education programmes for primary and secondary schools.
The areas we cover include meat and livestock (cattle, sheep and pigs) in England and Wales; horticulture (plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables) milk and potatoes in Great Britain; cereals and oilseeds in the UK.
Working with practicing teachers, we have produced a number of online and hard copy resources, which are available to support teaching the curriculum. Some of these are sector specific like Grow Your Own Potatoes, others are cross-sector initiatives, which include supporting www.foodafactoflife.org.uk
On 15 February 2012 we launched our AHDB Education Strategy 2012-17 covering food production and farming communication activities to schools across the UK. The strategy’s key goal is to extract greater value from the long term educational activities currently being carried out by each of AHDB’s sector divisions, and to better align these with other education programmes in the industry.

Perceptions of children aged 7-15
Research commissioned with FACE/Childwise was carried out and completed earlier this year. The research provides us with an overview of current perceptions of children aged 7-15 on food, farming and the countryside and has helped provide essential insight during the development and planning phase of the AHDB Education Strategy 2012-17.
The Group is now undertaking various levels of activity to help awareness of the research which includes sharing the research findings with industry colleagues who have a vested interest in education.
